If you have ever been round the operating system neighborhood and knocked on every platform door then you know that like most things in life with cars being a good comparison , you can’t get everything out of an operating system. This is unreasonable for a particular number of reasons and I hate it.

First off I heard a comment from CableNet’s IT manager with regards to a very nice thinkpad he recently got. Someone asked him "how long does the battery go for?". The answer was "3 hours with Ubuntu , 6 hours with Vista."

Then there was my story from late this afternoon. I closed my Toshiba laptop’s lid , presumed it would go to sleep , and stuck it in the bag. When I got home I took out the laptop from it’s bag and guess what…. no sleep , it was wide awake , and boiling hot. I got so mad I wanted to throw it out of the window. This kept happening after I installed SP1 on Vista.

Then there is Apple. My macbook behaves well. When you close the lid , and open it your SSH connections are still live (it still keeps your wifi alive). It goes to sleep properly when you shut the lid , wake up properly and all the rest of the proper things a computer should do.

Unfortunately if you like to play games then you have to lean towards an XP/Vista OS. Therefore your stuck more or less with Windows ; which is bad.

I just feel like the operating system local brotthle. It’s supposed to be a tidy environment , with functional character. But none of the Apple alternatives seem to give you what Apple does out of the box. Though I love Linux with all my heart and i’m "fond" of Vista in a sense , I still can’t get them to attract my attention enough to apply trust.

Never the less I’m still confident that a real computer user uses a real computer and a real operating system. That can be found here

In the meanwhile where Ubuntu is gaining altitude I wish them the best of luck since they are by far my operating system of choice (Open Source is good!).
